(Many thanks) Alison Frith voted Best Healthcare Professional 2008 Alison Frith, Clinical Research Sister at the City of London Migraine Clinic, has been awarded the accolade of ‘Best Healthcare Professional 2008’ at the Migraine Heroes Healthcare Awards, run by national charity Migraine Action, the patient organisation for sufferers of migraine and other headaches. Alison received the award from the hands of Ewan McTaggart of Janssen-Cilag, sponsor of the award. Migraine Action launched the awards to enable the estimated one in eight people affected in the UK to say thank you to those who have helped them in managing their migraine. There were also categories for Best GP, Best in Complementary Medicine, Best Pharmacy and Best Carer. Migraine sufferer Mary Hobbins, who was one of those who nominated Alison, explains her recommendation as a result of taking part in research trials at the City of London Migraine Clinic since 1991: “When I learnt of the Migraine Action awards I was keen to nominate Alison as my hero. She has offered me great support over the years and plays a vital role in helping to understand and treat migraine through her research projects”. Mary continues: “There is still much to learn about migraine. People often think it is just a bad headache, but it can have a hugely disabling affect on your life. It has dramatically affected my work choices and blighted many social events. It is great to know that people like Alison are working to improve life for migraineurs in the future, and I believe she is truly deserving of the award.” Lee Tomkins, Director at Migraine Action says: “These awards aim to recognise individuals who have made a big difference to people affected by migraine, and it was clear from her nomination that Alison’s positive outlook, passion and support has played an important role in helping people like Mary to cope with and manage her migraines and we are delighted to award Alison with the Best Healthcare Professional award.” Paul Jansen, Interim CEO of the City of London Migraine Clinic congratulated Alison on her award, saying: ”Alison works so hard and always has the best interest of the headache sufferer at the core of what she does. This award is a great recognition of her dedication. She fully deserves it.” Sarah Grimstone – Royal Parks Half Marathon She did it! On Sunday 12th October Sarah Grimstone, a patient at the Clinic, ran in the Royal Parks Half Marathon through central London. It was the first time she'd taken part in a long-distance run and it was hard, but it was a beautiful, sunny (at times hot) October day, which helped to overshadow the pain! Her finish time was 2 hours 21 minutes, which was faster than she had hoped and she ran all the way. She has suffered from migraine since she was a teenager but The City of London Migraine Clinic has made such a positive difference to her and her long-suffering family and friends, that she thought it was time to give something back! If you wish to sponsor Sarah and support the Clinic you can donate online through Justgiving by clicking on the link below. It’s quick, easy and totally secure and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
